Day after the Delhi High Court rejected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest, his advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi appealed to the Chief Justice of India for an early hearing of his petition challenging the HC verdict. Kerala: One dead, one injured in blast during suspected making of country-made bomb in Kannur

One person was killed and another seriously injured in a blast near Panur in this north Kerala district in the early hours of Friday, police said. OPINION | MUKHTAR ANSARI: NO TEARS FOR THE DEATH OF A HARDCORE CRIMINAL

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari was laid to rest in Ghazipur, UP, today in the presence of several thousand mourners. A huge contingent of police and armed forces was present to ensure that the funeral took place peacefully. There have been demands from several political parties for a top-level inquiry into the circumstances in which he suffered cardiac arrest in Banda jail and later died. The death must be probed and the real reason for his death must be made public. This will be by the principles of natural justice and there are provisions in our law for this. Allegations have been made by Mukhtar's family members that he was served food laced with slow poison in jail. But it will be unjustified to politicize the issue.

Refuting the family's allegations, the post-mortem on gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari confirmed that he died of cardiac arrest. Ansari, a former MLA who had been booked in more than 60 cases, died Thursday night after he was rushed to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail, where he was lodged. The autopsy was conducted by a panel of five doctors.

India to spend $3.7 billion to fence Myanmar border, cabinet approval pending: Report

New Delhi: India plans to spend nearly $3.7 billion to fence its 1,610-km porous border with Myanmar within about a decade, news agency Reuters reported citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter, to prevent smuggling and other illegal activities. Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs Delhi said it would fence the border and end a decades-old visa-free movement policy with coup-hit Myanmar for border citizens. The Indian government said the reasons behind the fencing are national security and to maintain the demographic structure of its northeastern region.
