The contentious order had declared the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as the "real political party" following a significant split in June 2022. Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS: BJP appoints MP Sanjay Jaiswal as Chief Whip in Lok Sabha

Parliament Monsoon Session HIGHLIGHTS:  The Union Budget 2024-25 was presented in Lok Sabha by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on July 23. A discussion on the Budget was held today and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi addressed the House. Discussions on Delhi coaching centre deaths were also held in both Houses. Participating in the debate in the Lok Sabha on Budget 2024-25, Gandhi said the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will ensure that a legal guarantee for MSP as well as a caste census is passed by the House. In a speech that invoked the Mahabharat and led to an uproar in the House, prompting Speaker Om Birla to intervene frequently, the former Congress chief alleged that the sole aim of the Union Budget is to strengthen the framework of big businesses, political monopoly that destroys the democratic structure, and the deep state or the agencies. After the speech, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh rose to say that the Leader of Opposition was trying to mislead the nation about the sensitive issue of national security and the Agnipath initiative. In his response, Gandhi said the defence minister had told the House that the family of an Agniveer martyr was paid compensation of Rs 1 crore but it was only insurance payment and not compensation.

OPINION | Modi to give jobs to millions: Is it 'Kursi Bachao' Budget?

The first budget of Narendra Modi 3.0 government presented in Parliament on Tuesday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman clearly reflects the after-effects of Lok Sabha elections, with Nitish Kumar's Bihar and N Chandrababu Naidu's Andhra Pradesh getting a financial bonanza. Though both these chief ministers were demanding Special Status for their states, it was not granted. Both the states got nearly Rs 75,000 crore worth projects in the budget. Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleverly addressed the core issue of jobs that the Opposition had been raising. The Centre will implement five schemes under the 'Employment-Linked Incentive' as part of the Prime Minister's package.

OPINION | MODI’S warning TO OPPOSITION

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at Congress and Rahul Gandhi in his replies to the Motions of Thanks, both in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. While in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday, the opposition MPs continuously shouted slogans during his 135-minute long reply, they staged a walkout  in the Rajya Sabha while Modi was replying. In the Lok Sabha, the Congress and other opposition parties tried to their best to stop Modi from speaking, but the Prime Minister went on with his speech amidst the din created by slogan shouting members. Modi said, after the last month’s general elections, the Congress will be termed as a ‘parasite’, because it won only 99 seats in Lok Sabha with the help of vote share of its allies. The 2024 elections, he said, marked the third consecutive defeat of Congress in Lok Sabha elections, and it  failed to breach the 100 mark. Instead of taking lessons from the election results, Modi said, “Congress is trying to tell the people that they have defeated us. This is just like pacifying a child who failed in his exam”.  The Prime Minister remarked that the government would not tolerate any more  “dramas” and the “opposition and its eco-system will be replied in their own language”.
